Red-Hot Shooting Leads to Lakers Win
In their last game, the Lakers were at home, where they shot a scorching 59.2% from the floor in a 128-110 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night. They also shot the rock well from 3-pt land (41.4%) and led the T-Wolves to 46.6% shooting and 34.2% shooting from deep. In the W, Luka Doncic became only the fourth player ever to start a season with at least 40 points in the first two games with 49 points, Austin Reaves had 25 points, and Rui Hachimura had 23 points. L.A. covered as a 2.5-point underdog after failing to cover the spread in the season opener.
Doncic has had to score big for L.A., which is without LeBron James (back) until next month. Doncic has scored 92 points in the first two games, shattering the Lakers’ record for scoring after two games, which was held by the legendary Jerry West with 81 points. Austin Reaves has totaled 51 points in the first two games, where in each he shot over 56%from the floor. Newcome DeAndre Ayton is the only other player averaging in double figures (10 ppg) and had 15 points and eight rebounds in the last game. This is the first Lakers road game of the season, and while winning 50 games last season, they were under .500 on the road (19-22).
Doncic (finger) is listed as questionable for this game.
Sabonis Plays the Hero in Kings Win
The Kings looked on their way to their second loss in their last game, but Domantas Sabonis pulled down an offensive board and scored on the putback with 12 seconds remaining to give the Kings a 105-104 home win over the Utah Jazz. Sacramento shot 48.2% and 44.2% from beyond the 3-pt arc and forced 20 turnovers and the Jazz shot 44.2% and 31.7% from long range. Zach LaVine had another big game with 31 points, Dennis Schroder had 17 points, and Malik Monk had 20 points off the bench. The Kings failed to cover as a 6-point favorite and their opening was a Pick.
Sabonis averaged 19.1 ppg and 13.9 rpg last season and after missing the first game with an injury, he had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the last game. LaVine has scored 30 and 31 points, respectively, in the first two games, where in each he shot over 54%. Monk has totaled 39 points in the first two games, and Schroder has totaled 31. Late off-season addition Russell Westbrook has failed to get it going for his new team and while he has only totaled 13 points in the two games, he shot 60% in the last game after only shooting 25% in the first one. The Kings have won their only home game and last season lost all four games facing the Lakers.
Keegan Murray (thumb) is out until Nov. 30.
Lakers vs. Kings PickSpread Pick Lakers vs. Kings
Both the Kings and the Lakers are coming off their first wins after dropping their season opener. L.A. was more impressive in their last game with an 18-point win over a Timberwolves team that made the Western Conference finals last season. The Kings needed a putback on an offensive rebound to beat a Jazz team that had the fewest wins in the league last season. Both of L.A.’s games have been against playoff teams from last season, while both of Sacto’s have come against teams that did not make the postseason. In terms of the L.A. Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings prediction, Doncic will stay hot, the Lakers will shoot well like the last game, and not only cover but get the win as well.
Over/Under Pick for Lakers vs. Kings
The total has gone Over for the Lakers’ last two games and that is the pick I am leaning towards, even though the total went Under for the Kings’ last game. Doncic has been on fire through the first two games, totaling 92 points in their last two games, and he will continue his hot shooting in this game. He has also got a lot of help from Austin Reaves. The Kings only scored 105 points in their last game, but will score more in this game, facing a Lakers’ defense that has given up at least 110 points in each of their last two games. This game will be a fast-paced high high-scoring affair, so the Over is the pick.
