WACO, Texas – In a battle of ranked neighbors, No. 39 San Diego women’s tennis was topped on the road by No. 39 Baylor, 4-1 on Tuesday morning.
 
In windy conditions in Waco, it was the hosting Bears who were quicker adapted and jumped at the first opportunity in doubles. After a defeat on main court, Toreros Charlotte Keitel and Kristina Nordikyan on court three brought the doubles point to level pegging with a 6-4 win. It would end up being for naught as the Bears claimed the deciding victory on court two for the match’s first point.
 
In singles, the hosts quickly doubled their lead as their 120th-ranked ranked player on court two claimed a straight set win. It was quickly answered by a dominant victory from reigning WCC Freshman of the Year and ITA No. 119 Hannah Read who posted a 6-2, 6-0 win, her seventh straight.
 
Despite strong efforts in 7-5 sets, the Toreros on courts six and five fell in their contests, seeing Baylor clinch the match at 4-1 to leave the remaining matches unfinished.

The Toreros return home for what will likely be a pivotal match with WCC Championship and NCAA Tournament implications as they take on No. 7 Pepperdine on Friday at 1:30 p.m., broadcasting live on Cracked Racquets’ YouTube.
