What began as a casual exchange for Zendaya has turned into a viral win for an Oakland bakery.

“In Oakland, my favorite place to eat is Arizmendi,” she replied while signing autographs.

She added, “They have one in San Francisco too.”

The brief conversation, captured in a short clip shared to social media, took place on Thursday, March 26. Two days later, Arizmendi Lakeshore re-shared the video to its Instagram account. The bakery’s post has since gone viral, with more than 224,000 views as of Tuesday, March 31.

The Chronicle has reached out to Arizmendi for comment.

The Oakland shop at 3265 Lakeshore Ave. opened in 1997 as a worker-owned cooperative. The sister restaurant to the Cheese Board in Berkeley, it has since become known for its pizza and scones, in addition to other pastries. Arizmendi also has locations in Emeryville, San Rafael and San Francisco’s Inner Sunset and the Mission.

But Arizmendi isn’t the only East Bay eatery that Zendaya enjoys.

The “Euphoria” actor has also been spotted visiting Berkeley’s historic Yogurt Park. Owners, who described her as a regular, previously told the Chronicle that her usual order is a mini chocolate and vanilla with rainbow sprinkles.

The Golden Globe Award winner has been on a press blitz for “The Drama,” which hits theaters Friday, April 3. She is expected to make an appearance at the “Euphoria” Season 3 premiere in Los Angeles in the next few weeks, despite doing little to promote the HBO show’s final season, set to release April 12.
