Man hospitalized after being shot in his car in Central Fresno, police say

A man has been taken to the hospital after being shot in his vehicle in Central Fresno on Tuesday night, police say.

Officers were called to the area of Hughes and Cornell avenues south of Sheilds Avenue and found a man shot in the lower body.

According to Fresno police, the victim was in his vehicle when the suspect in another vehicle pulled up and shot at him.

The victim drove a couple of blocks away from the scene, where he was able to get medical help.

He was taken to the hospital and is expected to live.

It is unknown if there was more than one shooter or if the victim was the target.

Hughes Avenue will be closed between Michigan and Weber avenues for several hours as the investigation continues.
