DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A woman was stabbed in the neck in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday in an attack that police believe may have been random. Now, a man who already had an outstanding warrant for murder is under arrest.

Los Angeles police said it happened at Olympic Boulevard and Hope Street around 10:15 a.m. The woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Kenneth Gibson, 39, was taken into custody around 2 p.m. in the area of 5th Street and Flower Street, LAPD said.

Police personnel confirmed to Eyewitness News that Gibson was wanted by California Highway Patrol for a murder that occurred in 2025. Further details about that murder were not immediately available.

Gibson was arrested and booked on his outstanding warrant, plus attempted murder for Tuesday’s attack. He’s being held on no bail.

Investigators said the woman who was stabbed is believed to be between 60 and 70 years old.

LAPD confirmed that a bystander helped the victim, applying pressure to her wound. Investigators were canvassing the area for video of the attack.
