After a very dry and sporadically warm month, a healthy downpour of rain hit Southern California just hours before the beginning of April.

“As it moves further south and through L.A. County, we are seeing rain now falling in Anaheim, Costa Mesa and Mission Viejo,” KTLA Meteorologist Vera Jimenez said. “Then, as we continue across into the Inland Empire, places like Perris and Riverside are getting some rain, so is San Bernardino.”

The weather system moving through the region is not expected to be an especially large rainmaker, with the National Weather Service forecasting any measurable rainfall likely to be under 0.10” in the coast and valleys, with a chance of 0.25” in the foothills.

“This is going to be some good, really beneficial rain, especially because most of it is going to fall in the overnight hours and there’s going to be plenty of time for it to absorb into the ground, which is exactly what we need,” Jimenez noted.

Gusty north to northwest winds of 40 to 50 miles per hour are expected through Thursday, with possibly stronger gusts in the Interstate 5 corridor and along the Santa Ynez Range.

While foothill and mountain communities could see some lingering showers into Wednesday, most of the weak storm system will have moved through Southern California and given way to a high-pressure system that signals the return of above average temperatures into the weekend.
