Gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter, a Democrat and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, will be in Bakersfield for a meet and greet at 2 p.m. today.
The event will be held downtown at 502 Cafe, 1412 17th St.
“She plans to hear from Bakersfield residents about their hopes for the state and share more about her plans to bring down costs and stand up to (President) Donald Trump,” the campaign said in a news release.
Porter, elected to the House in 2018 to represent Orange County, is a leading contender in a crowded field vying to become California’s governor.
She is one of six candidates confirmed to attend a candidate forum Wednesday in Fresno. It will be hosted by a range of agriculture industry groups.
Other candidates confirmed for Wednesday’s forum include Xavier Becerra, attorney and former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services; Chad Bianco, sheriff of Riverside County; Steve Hilton, author and contributor to Fox News Channel; Matt Mahan, mayor of San Jose; and Antonio Villaraigosa, former mayor of Los Angeles.
Invitations have been issued to all candidates who topped a 3% polling threshold in the March 1 average of polls conducted by RealClearPolitics, the Western Growers Association said in a news release.
Candidates Tom Steyer, entrepreneur, and U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Castro Valley, received invitations but declined to attend.
