Early Wednesday morning, firefighters responded to a residential fire in South Sacramento, rescuing an adult from the burning home.

Around 1:34 a.m., the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District was called to the 8900 block of Leland Avenue after reports of a house fire.

Fire crews from Sacramento Metro Fire, Sacramento City Fire, and Cosumnes Fire Department arrived to find heavy fire throughout the structure.

Upon arrival, firefighters were informed that an elderly adult female remained inside. Crews conducted a primary search and successfully rescued her from the rear of the home.

She was taken to a local hospital for emergency care. Her current condition has not been released.

The homeowner reported that smoke alarms were activated when the fire began, prompting efforts to evacuate another occupant.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District’s Investigation Team is on scene to determine the cause of the fire. Additional details will be released as they become available.
