Maria Somerville’s atmospheric pop transports listeners to the rugged Irish region of Connemara, where she grew up.
Though the musician and producer has also lived in Dublin, her music remains rooted in that landscape, from hushed vocals to soft guitar strums and light percussion.
Somerville first gained recognition after uploading her music to the Irish online platform Breaking Tunes, which earned her an invitation to perform at the Irish festival Electric Picnic. In 2018, she released her debut album, “The Man Called Stone in My Shoe,” followed by “All My People” in 2019. That same year, she also began hosting shows on NTS Radio, an online radio station founded in London.
Her most recent project, “Luster,” released in 2025, drew critical acclaim for dreamy pop that blurs fantasy and reality, carrying on the style that first brought her wider attention..
She brings that ethereal sound to the Bay Area with an Friday, April 10 show at the Independent in San Francisco.
