Caltrans said drivers heading eastbound on the Bay Bridge should expect delays due to police activity Wednesday evening.
Just before 7:30 p.m., Caltrans said the #3 through #5 eastbound Interstate 80 lanes, west of Treasure Island, were closed. The #3 lane was opened around 8 p.m., but the #4 and #5 lanes remained closed.
The closure began when a driver leading police on a chase abandoned the vehicle on the upper level and jumped onto the lower level of the bridge, according to the United States Coast Guard. A Coast Guard boat was called to the scene as a precaution in case the person fell from the Bay Bridge.
The San Francisco Fire Department was also at the scene, and said they were called to help look for something in the water. So far, crews have not yet located anything, the department said.
There was no estimated time of reopening for the lanes, according to Caltrans.Â
