(FOX40.COM) —  A months-long investigation into suspected drug activity in West Sacramento led to the arrest of a suspect on multiple felony charges.

According to the West Sacramento Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, it began looking into the case in February after noticing an increase in non-local foot traffic and a rise in fentanyl overdoses in the community. Detectives identified a location of interest and obtained search warrants for two motel rooms.

Earlier this week, West Sacramento police said its investigators conducted surveillance and stopped a vehicle connected to the case away from the motel. The driver was detained without incident as officers served the search warrants.

One person was arrested on several felony charges, including possession of narcotics for sale, possession of a loaded firearm and being armed in the commission of a crime.

During the investigation, detectives seized what they described as significant quantities of illegal drugs, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine base, MDMA and prescription pills, WSPD stated in a press release.

Police said officers also recovered evidence consistent with narcotics sales and more than $1,200 in cash.

WSPD reported that the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug activity and improve public safety in the community.

Anyone with information about suspected drug activity is encouraged to contact the West Sacramento Police Department.
