Long Beach police traffic investigators sought information from the public Thursday about a crash that killed a woman who was on foot outside of a crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle and died at a hospital.

The crash was reported about 3:55 a.m. Sunday. Officers were dispatched to the area of Ninth Street and Fashion Avenue and when they got on scene Long Beach Fire Department personnel were rendering medical aid to the woman, police said.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries, according to the Long Beach Police Department, whose officials said they were informed of the fatality on Wednesday.

“The preliminary investigation indicates a white Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Ninth Street when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway outside of a crosswalk,” according to an LBPD statement. “The Toyota Tacoma fled the scene.”

The dead woman’s name was withheld pending notification of her next of kin.

Anyone who may have seen the fatal crash was urged to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Ashley VanHolland at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips may be submitted through LA Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or at www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
