SAN JOSE — A Sunnyvale man and a San Jose man have been identified as the victims of a mysterious double-fatal shooting last month, while investigators continue to probe the circumstances of the violence and seek a suspect, authorities said.
Gunfire was reported at 10:11 p.m. March 12 in the 700 block of East Santa Clara Street, near South 15th Street in the city’s Naglee Park neighborhood, according to the San Jose Police Department.
Responding officers arrived to find two wounded men, and both died at the scene. They have since been identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as 56-year-old Sunnyvale resident Eddie Leon Guerrero Delgado and 41-year-old San Jose resident Oscar Herrera Salgado.
The coroner’s office listed the cause of death for Delgado as a gunshot wound to his head; for Salgado, it was a gunshot wound to his back.
Other than neighbors’ reports of audible arguing preceding the shooting, and the sound of a fleeing car afterward, no significant leads have been publicly announced. In a brief statement Thursday, the police department said of the homicide investigation, “there are no new updates to share at this time. The investigation remains active and ongoing.”
The deaths marked the fifth and sixth homicides of the year investigated by San Jose police. That total has since reached seven.
