It was just announced that HBO’s “Euphoria” is scheduled to screen Sunday, April 12, at 11:59 in the festival’s campground area. Starring Oakland-born actress Zendaya, the show is now in its third season, the first installment of which will hit the streaming service earlier that night, before the Coachella screening.
It has been more than four years since Season 2 of the emotionally charged series wrapped, and in the years since, two cast members have died (Oakland’s Angus Cloud at 25, and Eric Dane at 53). This season takes place five years after the events of the previous season.
In a potential plot twist that hasn’t yet been cleared up, the show’s composer, who is booked to perform at Coachella, recently made a cryptic and incendiary social media post foreshadowing a harsh split with the show — and potentially the music industry in general. Labrinth, who worked on the first season and collaborated with Hans Zimmer on Season 3, posted an Instagram story stating that he was “done with this industry,” followed by expletives aimed at both his label Columbia Records and “Euphoria,” as reported by Deadline.
He made the statement March 13 and followed it with another more detailed post on March 17 to his Instagram grid: “We walk into this industry as pure creatives that wish to share color and get turned into wolves of Wall Street dribbling over stocks and shares,” he wrote.
SFGATE reached out to Coachella to inquire if Labrinth will still perform at the festival but did not receive a reply. He is also scheduled to play at San Francisco’s Outside Lands in August.
