The Los Angeles Angels return to Angel Stadium on Friday for their 2026 home opener, marking the franchise’s 60th season playing in Anaheim, as questions continue about the long-term future of the ballpark.

A red carpet fan event is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Home Plate Gate ahead of first pitch, according to organizers, with player appearances and live interviews planned to celebrate Opening Day at “The Big A.”
Angel Stadium is currently under lease through 2038, but negotiations over a potential sale or redevelopment of the stadium site have faced setbacks in recent years, including the collapse of a $320 million deal tied to a federal corruption investigation involving former Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu, according to the Orange County Register.
City leaders say early conversations are underway with state officials about how future development of the 150-acre stadium property could comply with the Surplus Land Act, which prioritizes affordable housing when public land is sold, the O.C. Register reported.
Meanwhile, the team is entering a new era of leadership as Molly Jolly prepares to take over as president on April 6, becoming the franchise’s first female president, according to the report.

Officials say fans attending games this season can expect new food offerings, updated merchandise and about $5 million in stadium improvements, including upgrades to seating areas and parking facilities, the Orange County Register reported.
The O.C. Register also reported that the home opener comes as some state lawmakers consider legislation that could require the team to restore “Anaheim” to its name if certain development exemptions are granted.
For many fans, however, Opening Day remains focused on baseball.
