The alleged driver in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in San Marcos earlier this year was arrested Thursday, sheriff’s officials said.
John Alvarado, 39, was booked on suspicion of felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in connection with the death of 62-year-old Carey Faust on Feb. 21, Sgt. Jeremy Collis said.
Investigators said Faust was standing behind his parked vehicle when he was struck by a Hyundai Venue near North Pacific Street and 1st Street, Collis said.
Faust died before he could be taken to a hospital.
The SUV’s driver got out of the SUV and ran away north toward Mission Avenue, investigators said.
Alvarado was arrested by the Fugitive Task Force and is being held in lieu of $300,000 bail.
