The San Diego Wave are waiting patiently for Cat Macario and her goal-scoring skills to get healthy.
In the meantime, they’re finding scoring from a group of players that will soon be the star’s supporting cast.
Ludmila scored a 63rd-minute goal, her first with the Wave, as San Diego beat the expansion Boston Legacy 1-0 on Friday night in front of 10,213 fans in Foxborough, Mass.
The Wave (4-1-0) have won a club-record four straight matches. During that time, they’ve gotten goals from four different players — Dudinha, Melanie Barcenas and newcomers Lia Godfrey and Ludmila.
Born Ludmila da Silva, the Brazilian forward played for Atletico Madrid and the National Women’s Soccer League’s Chicago Stars. The Wave acquired her from Chicago, where she scored 13 goals in 31 appearances, via an offseason transfer.
Friday’s goal came on an assist from Kimmi Ascanio and broke a scoreless tie with a team that entered the day last in the NWSL standings. The Wave began in a four-way tie for first.
The Wave return to action April 25 with a road game against the league’s other expansion team, the Denver Summit. San Diego then travels to Portland on April 29 to take on the Thorns before returning home May 3 to host Bay FC at Snapdragon Stadium.
