IT ALL HAPPENED LAST WEEK, AROUND 830 AT NIGHT WHEN HABIBA WAS DRIVING WITH HER FAMILY TO CONTINUE CELEBRATIONS FOR RAMADAN. SHE BELIEVED HER VEHICLE TIRE MIGHT HAVE BEEN PUNCTURED OR THERE WAS SOME AIR PRESSURE GONE, SO STEPS OUT STEPPED OUT OF HER VEHICLE TO CHECK ON THAT. JUST LIKE ANY OF US WILL DO. WELL, SHE WOULDN’T KNOW IS THE MOMENTS THAT WOULD COME AFTER WHILE SHE WAS IN THE TRUNK AREA, SOME VEHICLE SLAMMED RIGHT INTO HER. AS SOON AS I CROSSED THE STREET, I SEEN THE BODY WITHIN LIKE 100 200FT. ALSO IN THAT CAR, HER 18 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER IS GOING TO BE REALLY HARD FOR ME AND FOR MY KIDS TO TAKE CARE. BUT NOW, ONE WEEK LATER AND NO SUSPECT VEHICLE IDENTIFIED, THIS FAMILY STILL SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS. THERE WERE A LOT OF BYSTANDERS. ONE OF THE BYSTANDERS HAD MENTIONED THAT HE HAS A VIDEO, BUT IT WASN’T CLEAR. WE DON’T HAVE MUCH INFORMATION RIGHT NOW. A week after a deadly hit and run on Florin Road, a Sacramento family is remembering Habiba Safi, a devoted wife and loving mother of four who was killed in the crash.“Going forward is going to be really tough. They’re not sure what’s ahead for them,” Sam Alemi, an attorney representing the family, told KCRA.According to the family, the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. last week as Safi and her family were driving to a friend’s house to continue Ramadan celebrations.“She believed her vehicle tire might have been punctured or there was some air pressure out, so (she) stepped out of her vehicle to check on that. Just like any of us will do,” Alemi said.That is when a vehicle struck Safi from behind, leaving her severely injured. She was pronounced dead at the scene.Her husband, now left to care for their four children, said even if the person responsible is found, the pain remains.“Even though I lost my wife. Even if he gets caught, I can’t get my wife back,” Folad Safi said.Also inside the car was the couple’s 18-month-old daughter. Now, one week later, the family says they are still waiting for answers, with no suspect identified.“There were a lot of bystanders. One of the bystanders had mentioned that he has a video, but it wasn’t clear,” nephew Malal Taheri said.The video has been turned over to the Sacramento Police Department, which said the investigation is ongoing and has not confirmed whether the vehicle or driver is connected to the incident.
