The Oakland Zoo in California said on April 2 that an orphaned mountain lion kitten that was rescued in southern California in late March was being cared for by staff at the zoo.

The three-week-old kitten, named Crimson, was first rescued by the National Park Service before being brought to the Los Angeles Zoo, where it underwent a health check, had multiple daily bottle feeds, and was kept in quarantine with minimal human contact, the zoo said.

To continue his rehabilitation, Crimson was then moved to Oakland Zoo where he was receiving bottle-feeds every three hours and socializing with other mountain lions.
