Former Oklahoma Sooners guard Austin Reaves had a career night for the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. It was simply a historic performance.

In the Lakers win over the Kings, Reaves had a career high 51 points, becoming the fifth Laker to record a 50 point game since the year 2000. The other Lakers to eclipse 50 points this century were Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis. That’s incredible company for the former Sooner.

In addition to his 51 points, Reaves added 11 rebounds and nine assists, becoming just the ninth player in NBA history to record that kind of stat line, according to The Athletic.

Reaves stepped up in a big way on a night that the Lakers were without superstars LeBron James and Luka Doncic. He was 12 of 22 from the field but was 21 of 22 from the free throw line.

The former Sooner led Oklahoma to the NCAA Tournament in 2021 but went undrafted before signing with the Lakers as a free agent. Over the course of his career, he’s carved out a critical role for Los Angeles. When needed, he’s provided an important scoring option for Los Angeles and did so Sunday night with the Lakers down their two best players.
