San Francisco police are investigating a shooting that took place shortly before noon Saturday in the city’s southwest Parkmerced neighborhood.

The incident was reported at Cambon Drive and Cardenas Avenue, close to the campus of San Francisco State University and about a mile south of the Stonestown Galleria shopping mall.

Parkmerced is San Francisco’s largest apartment complex, with more than 3,200 units in high-rise apartment towers and low-rise townhouses.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A woman died after being found shot outside a residence in South Vallejo early Saturday, police said.

Officers responded about 1:37 a.m. to a disturbance in the 900 block of Porter Street. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting were under investigation, police said. It was the second homicide in the city this year.

The identity of the victim was withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Solano County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office.

Three people accused of participating in the shooting and killing of a man in Stockton were arrested on Friday, according to the Stockton Police Department.

The victim was gunned down early Tuesday morning near South Commerce Street and West Main Street. He died after being taken to a hospital following the 12:35 a.m. shooting, police said.

Detectives from the Stockton Police Department identified 52-year-old Henry Heath, 36-year-old Brian Hansen and 40-year-old Amanda Chappel as suspects.

All three were arrested and booked into San Joaquin County Jail on homicide-related allegations.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in solving the 2005 killing of a man in unincorporated Hayward.

Kente Jones was 24 when he was shot on Monday, April 4, outside Quart House Liquors at 22596 Center Street, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Witnesses saw two black males assaulting Jones in the liquor store parking lot near his vehicle. One fired multiple shots at Jones before fleeing.

Jones was taken by ambulance to Eden Hospital but didn’t survive, deputies said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Homicide Unit at (510) 667-3661.

Firefighters were called to extinguish a blaze on the fifth floor of an eight-story residential building in San Francisco’s Civic Center late Saturday.

The fire about 9:55 p.m. at 44 McAllister was adjacent to the landmark Hibernia Bank Building, now a meeting and event space, and near the Federal Office Building on United Nations Plaza.

The fire was contained to one room, and there were no reports of injuries or displacements, the fire department said.

A long-serving pedestrian bridge in the city of Seaside that was closed in 2023 will get an $850,000 boost in federal funding that will allow it to reopen, according to the office of U.S. Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Santa Cruz.

The San Pablo Pedestrian bridge was built in 1960 but was restricted after maintenance needs piled up. It connects Lincoln-Cunningham Park and Manzanita-Stuart Park over busy San Pablo Avenue below.

Panetta, who worked to include funding for the bridge’s repair in the most recent congressional appropriations budget, called the bridge “iconic.” He celebrated its planned reopening with other local elected leaders and school officials on Friday.

Seaside Mayor Ian Oglesby said the improvements will help make the bridge safe for students to have reliable access to area campuses and parks, particularly, those at International School of Monterey.

The funding was part of nearly $1.8 million that Panetta’s office said he had secured for Monterey County quality of life projects.

The National Weather Service forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area for Sunday calls for mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.

Daytime highs will be mostly in the low 70s to low 80s on the coast, in the high 70s to high 80s around the bay, and in the mid to high 80s inland. Overnight lows will be in the high 40s to low 50s.

The NWS expects the hottest temperatures of the forecast Sunday. However, a cooling trend begins next week.

There is also an increased chance of beneficial rain mid to late next week.
