Richard Goode returns to S.F. for must-see Beethoven, Schubert program

Grammy Award-winning pianist Richard Goode plans to return to the city for a solo recital presented by San Francisco Performances. 

A pairing of major works — Beethoven’s  Op. 120 “Diabelli Variations” and Schubert’s Piano Sonata in B-flat Major — make up the program. The combination of pieces, with Beethoven’s monumental set of 33 transformations based on a simple waltz and the subtle, lyrical technical demands of the work by Schubert, require a great deal of virtuosic control as well as interpretive insight, realm in which the New York-based musician has long excelled.

“Richard Goode is one of the great American pianists of our time,” said San Francisco Performances President Melanie Smith, noting that the recital “promises to be another glorious, unforgettable” evening.

The Friday, April 10, concert is sure to be a hot ticket, as San Francisco Performances brings Goode back to Herbst Theatre for the first time since 2022.
