A Tiburon family’s nanny was recently nabbed at the San Francisco International Airport, ending a spending spree that included international flights, luxury hotel stays and spa services charged to her boss’s credit card, authorities said.
Naghmeh Novbakhtian, 35, allegedly racked up about $60,000 in charges, before the San Francisco resident was arrested while arriving at SFO on March 31, according to Tiburon police.
Novbkahtian was arrested on suspicion of fraud after the victim called the police March 26 to report tens of thousands of dollars in authorized charges on her credit card.
The victim told police that Novbkahtian had access to a family credit card for “childcare related expenses.” But the access was only between July to December 2025, the victim told authorities.
Later, the victim’s credit card company contacted her about certain charges, which had a “dramatic and unauthorized increase in spending” after Novbkahtian’s employment ended, police said.
Investigators attempted to find Novbkahtian but soon discovered she was traveling outside of the country and was scheduled to return March 31. Authorities arrested her after she got off a plane at SFO.
Police said the case remains under investigation. Investigators are also working to determine whether a previously reported residential burglary may be related.
