Re “Ballot mailed to voter who moved a genuine fraud risk” (April 3): This letter is insulting. Ballots are mailed by name to registered citizen voters. Opening another’s mail is mail tampering, a felony. Such ballots are merely sent back “return to sender.” Meanwhile, the actual voter can call the registrar and ask for his/her ballot, just as for spoiled or torn ballots. The fear that people might vote twice is unfounded, would be quickly discovered, and thus is non-existent. The acting attorney general also recently claimed that ICE belongs at polls because noncitizens cannot vote. Of course they cannot, so the last place ICE needs to be is at polls, where no such persons would be, risking imprisonment, and without ballots there for them anyway. Mail-in states don’t have eight-hour wait lines where voting is unnecessarily difficult. Calm down. Our registrar of voters can be thanked (and questioned) by phone or at https://www.sdvote.com/.
