One person was arrested in connection with a suspected arson fire Tuesday morning at a warehouse in Ontario.
Fire crews responded to the Kimberly Clark Warehouse in the 9500 block at the Merrill Avenue at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday and found the approximately one-million square foot warehouse on fire.
Firefighters reported heavy fire through the roof of the sprawling complex. Deputy Chief Mike Wedell said several agencies responded to the flames.
“We’ve had good success this morning,” Wedell said. “Firefighters were quickly overrun by fire throughout this building. They had to retreat for their safety because of the extreme growth over a short period of time.”
Video from NewsChopper4 showed at least one big rig trailer on fire at a loading dock.
About 20 employees were in the warehouse when the fire started, fire officials said. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Details about the person arrested were not immediately available.
Nearby roads were expected to remain closed for several hours. Residents were advised to stay away from the area.
Initially, one person was reported missing, but that person was later found safe.
