A disturbance from an Oceanside home on Tuesday led to an hours-long standoff that resulted in police finding a woman dead and the suspect hospitalized with potentially fatal self-inflicted injuries, according to the Oceanside Police Department.
Oceanside police responded around 9 a.m. after someone called 911 to report a woman yelling at the home in a cul-de-sac at the 2300 block of Fallingleaf Rd., OPD spokesperson Gina Avalos said. Around 1:45 p.m., broken glass and bangs were heard.
Law enforcement arrived on the scene, where they found an unresponsive woman and a man barricading himself inside the home. Police then called for further assistance from OPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams.
After an hours-long standoff, SWAT officers arrested the suspect. Officers found the man with multiple self-inflicted, life-threatening injuries, police said.
Personnel from the Oceanside Fire Department gave the suspect medical aid and transported him to a hospital.
Investigators believe that the woman was killed, police said, and the man who barricaded himself is believed to be the suspect.
Detectives from OPD’s Crimes of Violence Unit are investigating the homicide. The identities of both the victim and the suspect are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Due to the isolated nature of the incident, there is no additional threat to public safety, according to police.
