Racers (and racing fans) — start your engines!
The 51st Acura Long Beach Grand Prix is set to roll into town soon, bringing with it fast car-oriented events for the whole family.
KTLA 5’s Annie Rose Ramos spoke with race officials and drivers throughout Monday morning, who explained the festivities and what spectators will enjoy at the 51st edition of the race.

“There are six race series that are here over the course of the three-day weekend,” said Long Beach Grand Prix President and CEO Jim Liaw. “We’ve got Indy Car, sports car championship, the stadium super trucks, we’ve got a historic car race, we’ve got Formula Drift and the Porsche Carrera Cup. [There are activities] from morning until night.”

IMSA Weathertech sports car driver Colin Braun, who has won the Long Beach Grand Prix three times, spoke on the track itself, which will wind through the streets of Long Beach.

“This street course with concrete walls lining the whole place…any little mistake and you’re into a wall,” Braun said. “I think some people find that exciting.”

“I don’t, from the driver’s seat,” he chuckled, casually noting that he will be hitting speeds of up to 185 miles per hour during his race.
The 51st Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach takes place April 17-19.
