Floyd’s General Store in downtown Bakersfield, carries a wide range of items for home improvement and seasonal needs. Ford said shoppers can find items for “washing your hands, from the bathroom, the kitchen throughout your house.”

As temperatures warm up, the store is also stocking supplies for swamp coolers. “Floyd’s carries swamp cooler pumps, parts, pads, everything you need for your repairs, as well as new units.” says Ford.
Ford said cooler pumps typically need to be replaced annually because “water will just like, let these plastic be heat everything, just like, eats it away,” adding that customers often replace a pump instead of the whole cooler and that the store carries different pumps depending on the size needed.
Floyd’s also offers screen and glass services without an appointment. Angel walked us through the process and explained, customers should go to the screen and glass department through a separate door, where staff can help measure and discuss options. After that, customers will receive a ticket take it to the front for a price quote, and once it is paid, employees begin the work.

Staff will provide an estimate for how long the job will take and customers can return to pick it up. For a single screen, Ford said it can be finished quickly, adding, “He’s pretty prompt.”
Beyond home repair and cleaning, Floyd’s also carries mosquito repellents and lawn products. Angel said the store has items ranging from home defense products that create a barrier around the house to mosquito repellents, and noted that shipments were being restocked on Wednesday.
