Why did the people wearing cow costumes cross the road?
To get to the new Chick-fil-A that is opening in Escondido on Thursday.
The 80-year-old Atlanta-based chicken chain is launching its newest San Diego County location with a spotty promotion: anyone who drives up or approaches the carry-out window wearing cow attire on opening day can get a free entrée or kid’s meal. Options include the chicken biscuit or the Egg White Grill for breakfast, sandwiches or nuggets for lunch, and the chicken nugget kid’s meal.
For anyone wondering what exactly counts as “cow attire” — is a full bovine getup required, or would a spotted belt cut it? — the company is being open-minded.
“Whether it’s a full cow suit or a simple cow-spotted accessory, (guests) of all ages are invited to join the fun,” the news release says. The giveaway starts at 6 a.m., when the restaurant opens.
The restaurant is also giving $25,000 to Feeding San Diego, a local hunger relief nonprofit, and will donate surplus food.
This Chick-fil-A, at 515 W. 13th Ave., has a drive-thru and carry-out window. It is creating around 85 jobs, the news release said.
Its owner and operator, Zach Thomas, said he discovered the brand at a formative time in life: freshman year of college. He was “instantly drawn to the brand for their incredible service and genuine care for people,” he said. He lives in San Diego County and “will be in the restaurant every day,” the news release said.
Including this one, San Diego County has 24 Chick-fil-A restaurants. This is Escondido’s second.
