Bicyclist dead after crash in south Bakersfield: CHP

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A bicyclist is dead after a crash in south Bakersfield early Saturday morning.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol responded to southbound Union Avenue, south of Fairview Road for a crash around 3:42 a.m. on Saturday.

Investigation showed a man was riding a bicycle on southbound Union Avenue in the number two lane. A woman, 32, was driving in a 2017 gray Nissan Altima in the number two lane at about 45 to 50 mph.

The driver was approaching the bicyclist, she suddenly noticed the bicyclist and took evasive action. CHP said she was unable to avoid the bicyclist.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The involvement of alcohol and drugs is still under investigation.
