Fire at downtown Sacramento hotel began on hotel’s exterior, officials say

(FOX40.COM) — A fire at a downtown Sacramento hotel Wednesday morning that forced the occupants of two rooms to evacuate started on the hotel’s exterior, fire officials said.

Sacramento Fire Department firefighters received a report of a fire just after 9 a.m. at the Crossroads Inn on Jibboom Street.

Crews found moderate smoke coming from two units, Battalion Chief Keith Wade told FOX40. The occupants, who were alerted by smoke alarms, left the units with no injuries.

The fire started on the back side of the hotel’s exterior and worked its way into a wall and up the side. The hotel sustained significant damage from fire, smoke and water.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
