A cool coincidence has San Franciscans — and those who love the city — observing an informal local holiday known as 415 Day.
On April 15, 1850, San Francisco was officially incorporated as a U.S. city. The date also mirrors the city’s original 415 area code, creating a link between history and local identity. Over time, residents noticed the overlap, and the 15th day in the fourth month of the year began to take on new meaning.
Part civic birthday, part area code pride and part neighborhood homage, 415 Day has evolved into a celebration of San Francisco’s vibrant spirit, cultural diversity and resilience.

By 2016, the Solidarity Forever Collective solidified the holiday on the local calendar by hosting its first official community 415 Day in Dolores Park. The event highlighted the city’s working-class and minority communities’ survival in the face of gentrification.
Since then, there has been a variety of formal and informal gatherings across the city to mark the occasion.

This year’s 415 Day lands on Wednesday, commemorating San Francisco’s 176th birthday. Here are a few ways to join in on the fun:
415 Day Festival
Celebrate San Francisco’s culture, creativity and community at an evening event from SvnbySvn and Still Winnin’. Set to be hosted by Chase Baybe, Stunnaman02, comedian Janeé Lucas, Frisco Philly B and Fillmoe Mike, it honors the spirit of the 415 by showcasing local artists. Hang out with fans of the 7X7, enjoy food and drinks, live entertainment, community, and lots of San Francisco pride.

SF Space Walk 2026: 415 Day with Sunset Connect and Sense
San Francisco’s third annual week of weed features a 415 Day evening “drop party” with rock star cannabis growers and hit flowers set in a swanky lounge, live music, snacks, art, giveaways, deals and grower interviews.

Boom Boom’s Comedy Showcase
