SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A 47-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence when he struck and killed a pedestrian in San Francisco Sunday evening has been arrested, police said.

Police say the man was driving near the 1800 block of Ocean Avenue around 6:44 p.m. when he struck a pedestrian and then drove away from the area.

The pedestrian died at the scene, according to the San Francisco Police Department. Her identity was not immediately released.

The suspect driver was later located in the 500 block of Shields Street, police said. He was identified by authorities as San Francisco resident Hai Van Le.

Police told Patch that Le was taken into custody on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, causing injury, driving under the influence of drugs and causing injury, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, hit and run and elder abuse.
