BART riders faced major delays Thursday morning after an equipment problem on the track near San Bruno disrupted service on the SFO line during the morning commute — halting trains between the airport and South San Francisco, according to the transit agency.
The problem affected trains traveling in the Antioch, Richmond, San Francisco International Airport and Millbrae directions, BART said in a series of service advisories.
The delays appeared to worsen as the morning went on. BART initially reported a 10-minute delay, then a 20-minute delay, before later declaring a major delay on the line.
The service gap left a key stretch of the Peninsula line without trains during peak commute hours.
By 9:34 a.m., BART said there was limited Red Line service between Richmond and Daly City and limited Yellow Line service between Antioch and Colma. The agency also said it was running a shuttle train between SFO and Colma and another between SFO and Millbrae.
BART said SamTrans was helping bridge the disruption. Route 142 and the southbound EPX were running between San Bruno and SFO, while the ECR was operating between Millbrae and Daly City, according to the agency.
As of Thursday morning, BART had not said when normal service would resume. Riders were advised to check the agency’s service alerts and advisory page for updates.
