A suspect is now in custody following a shooting on Interstate 80 in West Sacramento on Monday, according to a release from the California Highway Patrol.
Reports indicate that at around 2:15 p.m. on April 6, a driver shot at another driver while moving westbound along the interstate. The bullet struck the vehicle but not the other driver, according to a statement from CHP Officer Rodney Fitzhugh.
The suspected shooter exited the freeway into West Sacramento, with the victim following while calling 911. Both vehicles headed south on Jefferson Boulevard and stopped just south of Burrows Avenue, authorities said.
Police arrived near the city’s southern edge around 2:26 p.m., detained the suspect and recovered a gun. The CHP’s Valley Division Investigative Services Unit took over the case. As of 6 p.m. Monday, the suspect had not been booked into Yolo County Jail. The motive remains unclear.
The victim was treated at the scene and released.
