The Fresno State softball team had its three-game win streak snapped against the No. 25 Grand Canyon University Lopes in a rare midweek doubleheader on Wednesday.

The ‘Dogs struggled to get the offense going as a team, scoring just one run over the two games.

The Bulldogs’ ace Lauryn Carranco went the distance in game one, allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out five batters over seven innings. With the loss, Carranco moved to 12-9 on the season.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs outhit the Lopes 7-6 in game one.

In the bottom of the second inning, second baseman Emma Martinez drew a walk with the bases loaded, scoring the Bulldogs’ first and only run of the afternoon.

The ‘Dogs saw just three hits the rest of game one, losing 4-1.

In game two, Alyssa Loza took the circle for the Bulldogs. Loza allowed five runs on five hits over 3.1 innings, taking the loss.

Despite the two losses, the ‘Dogs did see standout performances from Martinez and catcher Rylee Bocchini.

Martinez went 4-for-6 with a walk and the team’s lone RBI.

Bocchini followed up her standout performance last week, which earned her Mountain West Softball Player of the Week, with five hits that included a 3-for-3 stat line in game two of the doubleheader.

Bocchini also ripped a double to left field in the bottom of the second inning in game two.

The Bulldogs will remain at home for a two-game series against Colorado State over the weekend. First pitch is set for Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at Margie Wright Diamond.
