The Caldecott Tunnel reopened all eastbound lanes that were closed Thursday afternoon after a car crash and fire caused traffic delays during rush hour.
At least two vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened just after 1:30 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Andrew Barkley.
The crash caused a fire, but it’s unclear if anyone was hurt. The Oakland Fire Department responded to the scene and was continuing work on the incident, Barkley said.
Officials said Bore 3 reopened at about 2:30 p.m. and Bore 2 around 3:30 p.m. The closure caused major traffic going into the Lamorinda area, Barkley said. The Caldecott Tunnel is a four-bore highway tunnel through the Oakland hills, with each bore containing two lanes of traffic.
