A TikToker who is accused of attacking immigration agents with his car in South Los Angeles was taken back into custody Monday following a federal court appearance.

Ricardo Parias, who was shot along with a deputy U.S. Marshal during what federal officials described as a targeted enforcement traffic stop last Tuesday, appeared handcuffed in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom while his family members looked on.

“I’m hurting. I’m in pain right now,” Ulises Parias, Richardo Parias’ 14-year-old son, said after seeing his father in the courtroom.

Federal agents arrested Parias last Tuesday after they accused him of driving his car back and forth, hitting law enforcement cars that had boxed him in. Officials said Parias was trying to escape an immigration arrest.

Prosecutors said, during the confrontation, a federal agent fired a weapon, hitting Parias in the elbow, with a ricochet bullet hitting a deputy U.S. Marshal in the head.

Both were expected to recover from the injuries, but Parias’ attorney said the 44-year-old man has not gotten his pain medication since early this morning.

“He was shot, and anyone who was shot and has an injury like that knows how much pain that causes,” Carlos Jurado, Parias’ attorney, said.

Parias, who followed police and ICE activity in his community under the account Richard LA,” was charged with an assault on a federal officer. Federal authorities had also said Parias was undocumented.

If convicted, Parias faces eight years in federal prison.
