History

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Golden Grizzlies secured a 6-3 victory over IU Indy on Saturday, showcasing a steady offensive performance to score their second Horizon League series win of the season.

The Golden Grizzlies took an early lead against the Jags, scoring three runs in the first inning. Kamryn Troyer scored on a single by Kayla Turmell, who achieved a season-high by scoring two runs in this game. Kenna Bommarito and Turmell crossed the plate on Autumn Liebhauser’s single, which was advanced by an error. The Jags responded with one unearned run in the bottom of the inning, making it 3-1 after the first.

In the second inning, the Golden Grizzlies extended their lead with two more runs. Brooklyn Wyczalek scored on an error, and Brooklyn Plitz followed with another unearned run after a single from Turmell. The Jags added a run in their half, bringing the score to 5-2 at the end of the second inning.


The game remained scoreless through the third, fourth, and fifth innings as both teams’ defenses held firm. The Jags cut the Golden Grizzlies’ lead in the sixth inning when Kennedy Cowan hit a solo home run, tightening the score to 5-3.


In the final inning, the Golden Grizzlies added an insurance run. Turmell doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Liebhauser. The Golden Grizzlies secured the victory after preventing any further scoring from the Jags, concluding the game with a final score of 6-3.

Kama Skrek took over for 5 innings of work in the circle, giving up 6 hits and just 1 earned run. Skrek threw a season-high 67 pitches, 44 of them strikes, and secured the win.

Kayla Turmell led the offense with three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, crossing the plate twice herself. Autumn Liebhauser contributed significantly by bringing in three runs with her bat. Kenna Bommarito both pitched and hit effectively, recording two strikeouts over two innings while also adding a hit, a run, and an RBI. Kama Skrek secured the win on the mound, pitching five innings and striking out one, despite allowing six hits and one earned run.


Looking ahead, the Golden Grizzlies will face Lawrence Tech (Mich.) on Tuesday, April 14 for a doubleheader beginning at noon at Oakland Softball Field in Rochester, Michigan.
