Ground traffic of aircraft at the Bay Area’s largest airport was stopped Saturday evening as a band of thunderstorms slashed through the region.
At 5:19 p.m., San Francisco International Airport officials issued a ground stop due to the rain and wind from inclement weather. The halt of operations was expected to last until about 6:45 p.m., said airport duty manager Russell Mackey.
As of 6 p.m., he said the airport logged 367 delays and 17 flight cancellations.
While the weather led to most of the delays, construction on the airport’s runways has also led to delays. The airport estimated 10 percent of all flights could face delays as the airport shuts down Runway 1 Right and converts Runway 1 Left to a temporary taxiway as the airport upgrades the infrastructure.
Other Bay Area airports showed no major delays Saturday.
