LONG BEACH, Calif. — The UC Santa Barbara softball team fell in both games of their doubleheader against Long Beach State on Saturday evening. It was the Gauchos first series loss this season. The Gauchos dropped game one 8-1, before being walked off in game two, 3-2.

GAME ONE: BEACH 8, GAUCHOS 1
In the first game, UC Santa Barbara struggled offensively, managing only five hits while Long Beach State capitalized on a seven-run sixth inning to secure the victory. The Gauchos took an early lead in the fifth inning when Jaelyn Toledo singled to shallow right field, setting the stage for Bella Fuentes to double to left-center, driving in Toledo for the first run of the game. The inning concluded with UC Santa Barbara leading 1–0. However, LBSU quickly responded in their half of the fifth. A single through the left side started the inning before a sac bunt and advanced the leadoff runner to third. Another single to center field brought in the runner, tying the game at one.

The sixth inning proved decisive for Long Beach State as they capitalized on defensive miscues by the Gauchos. After a walk and a throwing error allowed runners to advance, a single scored one run. A double then brought in two more runs, and a series of fielding errors further extended Long Beach State’s lead. The inning ended with LBSU ahead, 8–1. The final inning saw UC Santa Barbara unable to close the gap, despite a single from Jazzy Santos, concluding the game with the Beach securing an 8–1 victory.

GAME TWO: BEACH 3, GAUCHOS 2
Dani Rauscher started the game for UC Santa Barbara with an infield single, followed by Tehya Banks with another infield single, advancing Rauscher to second. Giselle Mejia’s single loaded the bases, and Emily Carr grounded into a double play, allowing Rauscher to score. The inning ended with UC Santa Barbara leading 1-0. LBSU tied the game with a sacrifice fly, making the score 1-1 after the first inning.

The game remained deadlocked until the sixth inning. In the sixth, Banks singled and advanced to third on a throwing error, and Carr brought Banks home with a single, giving UC Santa Barbara a 2-1 lead. However, the seventh inning saw the Beach double and advance to third on a sacrifice bunt. A single drove tied the game. With two outs, the Beach got a crucial hit, a single up the middle, driving in the winning run, resulting in a 3-2 victory for Long Beach State.
