San Jose Sharks prospect defenseman Eric Pohlkamp is a national champion after the University of Denver defeated Wisconsin 2-1 on Saturday.

According to a source, Pohlkamp is dealing with a foot injury, but DU coach David Carle confirmed to SHD’s source that the San Jose Sharks prospect can play through it. While that could impact his ability to take the next step to the NHL, the player himself feels there will be a quick turnaround to pro hockey.

The Sharks are officially on the clock on whether they want to sign the 2023 NHL Draft 5th round pick. After Saturday’s matchup against the Vancouver Canucks, the San Jose Sharks will have three games remaining in the regular season.

“It’s going to be a rollercoaster. I am going to try and celebrate this tonight, but it’ll be pretty quick after this,” Pohlkamp said. “We’ll see where [the Sharks are] at and I am sure my agent will take most care of the rest of that.”

The Sharks’ next game is against the Nashville Predators on Monday.

“You can probably guess,” Pohlkamp said when asked about meeting the Sharks in Nashville.

SHD reported on Friday that the 22-year-old is aware of all the talk about signing his entry-level contract.

All eyes are on whether or not the Sharks decide to sign the defenseman to his ELC, which, if he does, will burn the first year regardless of how many games he plays in the NHL.
