Oakland Zoo said keepers were “building great bonds” with a rescued mountain lion kitten named Crimson ahead of his introduction to Clover, another orphaned kitten at the zoo.

This video, posted April 10, shows Crimson playing with Keeper Amber, the zoo said.

Crimson was first rescued by the National Park Service before being brought to the Los Angeles Zoo, where he underwent a health check, had multiple daily bottle feeds, and was kept in quarantine with minimal human contact, the zoo said.

To continue his rehabilitation, Crimson was then moved to Oakland Zoo, where he has been receiving bottle feeds every three hours and socializing with other mountain lions.

Mountain lions need 12 to 18 months with their mother to learn essential survival skills, Oakland Zoo said. Due to Crimson’s age, he lacks the skills necessary to survive in the wild. Credit: Oakland Zoo via Storyful
