Los Angeles joined the dozens of other communities protesting the Trump administration on Oct. 18 as part of “No Kings Day.” In Downtown LA, thousands came together outside City Hall, boasting large handmade signs and expressing their opposition with immigration policy and the deployment of ICE and the National Guard to cities, as well as several other policies.
Organized by the Democratic Action Network among local organizations, the protest was in Gloria Molina Grand Park and right at the footsteps of LA City Hall. More than a dozen people were arrested after the mostly peaceful demonstration — 12 adults and two juveniles — according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
According to the No Kings website, over 7 million Americans participated in the protests nationwide. There were more than 2,700 events in all 50 states. The event is a continuation of the No Kings movement that started in June.
“Now, President Trump has doubled down,” the website said. “His administration is sending masked agents into our streets, terrorizing our communities. They are targeting immigrant families, profiling, arresting and detaining people without warrants. Threatening to overtake elections. Gutting healthcare, environmental protections and education when families need them most. Rigging maps to silence voters. Ignoring mass shootings at our schools and in our communities. Driving up the cost of living while handing out massive giveaways to billionaire allies, as families struggle.”
“The president thinks his rule is absolute,” it continued. “But in America, we don’t have kings — and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption and cruelty.”
