A female victim was hospitalized after a dog attacked her along the Los Angeles River Sunday afternoon, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.
She was walking along the east side of the river near Anaheim Street around 1:40 p.m. when the dog bit and held onto her arm or leg, according to LBFD Capt. Jack Crabtree. Bystanders called 911 for help, he said.
First-responders arrived, and the dog let go and ran off, but the victim was left with severe injuries that required treatment at a trauma center, according to the LBFD.
Police and animal services personnel remained in the area to look for the dog and were eventually able to capture it, Crabtree said.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the dog was a stray or if its owner was nearby.
