At least one person was killed Saturday when a car crashed into the back of a tow truck and caught fire on state Route 54 in Bonita, officials said.
The crash was reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the freeway, just west of state Route 125.
Witnesses said the tow truck driver was assisting with a vehicle on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway when the car slammed into it and caught fire, also causing the vehicle loaded on the tow truck to catch fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash blocked two lanes of the freeway, prompting a traffic alert. No other information about the crash was immediately available.
