BASEBALL TOP 10

(Team records through Sunday, April 12.)

1. ST. JOHN BOSCO (13-5)

The Braves went 2-2 in the Boras Classic. They won their final two games in the tournament. Bosco will play a three-game Trinity League series against Santa Margarita this week. If Bosco wins at least two of the three games, it will remain in first place. UC Irvine signee Jack Champlin is batting .444 with 19 RBIs.

2. LA MIRADA (14-4)

The Matadores beat Servite 5-3 in a nonleague game Friday. La Mirada will play a three-game Gateway League series against No. 4-ranked Warren this week. The Matadores and the Bears will be playing for first place in the league standings.

3. GAHR (10-9)

The Gladiators went 2-2 in the Boras Classic, including a 2-1 loss against Orange Lutheran. Gahr has shown it can compete with any team in the Southern Section, having battled St. John Bosco and Orange Lutheran in a pair of one-run losses. However, the Gladiators’ overall record might land them outside of the Division 1 playoffs. They do not have any games this week.

4. WARREN (13-6)

The Bears went 1-2 last week, with the losses to Sierra Canyon and Etiwanda. They are second in the Gateway League standings and will play No. 2 La Mirada in a three-game league series this week. Warren’s league schedule does not get any easier. It will play No. 3 Gahr in a three-game series that starts April 21.

5. MILLIKAN (13-5)

The Rams move up to No. 5 in the rankings after going 3-0 last week with victories against Pitman, San Luis Obispo and Templeton in tournament play. Millikan is on a seven-game win streak behind the strong play of senior pitcher Daunte Bell. The Rams will play Compton, Torrance and Jordan this week.

6. LOS ALAMITOS (6-13)

The Griffins picked up a 5-2 nonleague win at Wilson in extra innings Saturday. Senior Rowan Shelley had the go-ahead RBI. Junior Logan Anderson threw five scoreless innings. The Griffins will play a three-game Sunset League series against Corona del Mar this week.

7. LONG BEACH WILSON (11-8)

The Bruins fought but lost 5-2 to Los Alamitos in 10 innings Saturday. Cooper George and Penn Peters drove in Wilson’s two runs. The Bruins will play Torrance, Cabrillo and Compton this week.

8. PARAMOUNT (16-4)

The Pirates move into the Top 10 after a 9-2 victory against Long Beach Poly last week. They also beat Mary Star 9-5 but suffered a 7-4 loss to Poly on Thursday. Paramount will play a two-game Mid-Cities League series against Firebaugh this week.

9. LONG BEACH POLY (13-7)

The Jackrabbits drop to No. 9 in the rankings after going 1-1 against Paramount last week. Paramount won the first game 9-2 and Poly won the second game 7-4. The Jackrabbits will play Jordan and Norwalk this week.

10. ST. ANTHONY (12-6-1)

The Saints drop No. 10 in the rankings after a 4-3 loss in extra innings to Burroughs in a nonleague game. They will play a two-game Camino Real League series against Cathedral this week.
