BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Newly released court documents are shedding light on what investigators say led to a deadly shooting outside an Oildale bar last month.

According to witnesses, the incident began when a fight broke out inside the Long Branch Saloon on March 7. The fight then moved into the parking lot, where 27-year-old Steven Quick allegedly pulled out a gun and fired multiple times, striking 43-year-old Jason Hall. Hall later died.

Investigators said Quick ran away after the shooting, prompting a multiday manhunt. Friends of Quick were later interviewed and told investigators they had recently driven to the city from Grants Pass, Oregon.

Detectives alerted police in Grants Pass, who later arrested Quick across state lines. He has since been extradited to Kern County, where he pleaded not guilty to murder on April 8.
