The home at 2898 Vallejo St. was sold by the Daniel and Gina Alegre Revocable Trust, the records show.
Daniel Alegre, a former Google executive, is chief executive of TelevisaUnivision, the Spanish-language media company, the Journal reported. It identified the buyer as Granola Properties LLC.
Compass data shows 23 San Francisco homes sold for $5 million or more in March, up from 12 in the same month last year.
Built in 1921, according to a previous Sotheby’s listing, the Beaux Arts-style house on Vallejo Street spans roughly 15,000 square feet. It occupies a prominent Pacific Heights corner with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz.
The property is known beyond real estate circles. It was used as a filming location in the 1974 disaster movie “The Towering Inferno” and for decades was associated with the Alioto family, whose former Fisherman’s Wharf restaurant became a San Francisco institution.
The Aliotos purchased the home for $225,000 in 1973, their daughter, Karen Lamson, told the Chronicle in 2013.
Public records cited by the Journal show the Alegre trust bought the property for $11.7 million in 2013. A previous Sotheby’s listing shows the mansion sold for $13.9 million in July of that year.
The home has since undergone extensive upgrades. The Journal reported that the Alegres renovated the kitchen and bathrooms, added an elevator and excavated the lower level to build an indoor pool.
The latest sale also surpasses the $45 million deal for a home on the Gold Coast — a stretch of Pacific Heights often referred to as “Billionaire’s Row” — sold by Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison in December 2025.
