Re “Construction begins on temporary replacement for aging Mission Beach lifeguard station” (March 28): San Diego’s litany of failed real estate projects continues. Imagine spending $4 million to remodel a lifeguard tower! A builder in the real world given a free oceanfront parcel, no need for permits, taxes or a construction loan could build a 6,000-square-foot mansion with granite, marble, and an edgeless spa — and still have room in the budget for red bathing suits.
